Southwest's Flexible Policies

Southwest Airlines has never charged change or cancellation fees — the only major U.S. carrier to maintain this policy consistently.
Changes — No Fees Ever
Change any Southwest flight at any time for free. If the new fare is lower, you receive a credit for the difference. If higher, you pay only the fare difference. No penalty, no exception.
Cancellations & Travel Funds
Wanna Get Away fares receive a travel fund (valid 12 months from purchase). Business Select and Anytime fares receive a full cash refund. There is no cancellation fee regardless of how close to departure.
Boarding & "Upgrades"
Southwest doesn't have assigned seating. Business Select passengers board A1-A15. You can purchase EarlyBird Check-In ($15–$25) for earlier boarding. Upgraded Boarding (A1-A15) is available at the gate for $30–$50 if available.

Rapid Rewards FAQ

How do Rapid Rewards points work?
Rapid Rewards points can be used to book any available Southwest flight. Points don't expire and there are no blackout dates. You can mix points and cash. Points booked on Wanna Get Away fares return points (not cash) if cancelled.
What is the Southwest Companion Pass?
The Companion Pass lets one designated person fly with you free on every flight (just taxes/fees) for the remainder of the calendar year plus the entire following year. Earned by accumulating 135,000 qualifying points in a calendar year.
